Between 1 December and 18 December 2020, we hope you will engage in this great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of disabled people and also use this opportunity to develop your own disability awareness.

This year, the national Disability History Month 2020 theme is Access. We’ll also be celebrating/exploring what’s changed since the introduction of the first disability legislation – the Disability Discrimination Act, 25 years ago.

As an employer, NTU is proud to have been granted Disability Confident Employer status in 2018 and we are now working towards Disability Confident Leader status. We are working together to embed the principles of the Equality Act and also the associated public sector equality duty into daily policies and practices across NTU.

NTU’s Disability History Month programme will give the NTU community the opportunity to do some learning and to have some dialogue on the issues that are important around this agenda. We hope that our staff and students across NTU will use the next month to participate and create spaces where people can discuss and talk about disability – in all its guises.

We will also be using this opportunity to share some insightful stories and good practices from employees to help create inclusive workplaces.
