To Celebrate UK Disability History Month this year, DIY has launched a FOLLOWING PATIENT 36 Digital Story and some resources to support schools and others to explore Learning Disability History.
Following Patient 36
“Following Patient 36” is DIY’s performance piece exploring Learning Disability History and the resilience of people with learning disabilities in Salford and Greater Manchester. It has been created by adults with learning disabilities based on interviews, research and personal experiences.
Because we are unable to share our performance on the stage for the foreseeable future we have made an interactive Digital Story incorporating films, songs and images, as a way of exploring some of the important issues raised by the performance. The Digital Story has already been shown at Manchester Histories Digifest 2020 and at the Enrich Festival this Summer. We have now developed some educational resources to accompany the Digital Story.

UK Disability History Month
United Kingdom Disability History Month (UKDHM) 2020 will take place from 18th November (with an online launch) until Friday 18thDecember 2020.
UKDHM is an annual event creating a platform to focus on the history of disabled peoples’ struggle for equality and human rights. This year’s theme is Access: How far have we come? How far have we to go?
