UCU will be celebrating Disability History Month at its Disabled Members Conference at Aston University, Birmingham on 1 December 2016. UKDHM for its theme in 2016 will focus on the language used to describe disabled people, the language disabled use to express themselves. Richard Rieser, Co-ordinator of Disability History Month will be speaking and there will be a photograph activity to celebrate the theme. Members will be asked to participate in a photo montage entitled “this is what I call myself, this is what you call me”. Members can choose what they want to write on a card that they can hold in front of them. Photos will be uploaded to the website (with the permission of the member). There will also be a session on the participation and inclusion of disabled members in the workplace and within UCU.
